A City Less Grey

Leeds City Centre, UK (2017)

This innovative public art project has been recognised with a Leeds Architecture Award.

A City Less Grey is a joint project commissioned by East Street Arts and funded by LeedsBID (Leeds Business Improvement District). It took the award for public realm and landscape design at the ceremony held at Leeds Town Hall on Thursday 28 February.

This city street art initiative aimed to animate the streets of Leeds with public art installations, bringing colour to key areas of Leeds. Featuring artists Nomad Clan, Kasia Breska, Joe Dickinson, Mike Winnard, Mel Holmes and Jo Peel, A City Less Grey brought the human touch of inspiring art, on a grand scale, to some of Leeds’ more industrial, grey and faceless cityscapes. The initiative brought Leeds’ personality to the fore, and celebrated street art as the artistry it is.

A City Less Grey also received national recognition at the Planning Awards in June 2018.
