Torriano School, Kentish Town

London, UK 2021

Torriano is an innovative school in Kentish Town, Camden. The curriculum is organised around sustainable development goals that tackle issues of inequality, social injustice and climate action.

The school is involved in regeneration projects such as the Camden Highline and the design of public spaces – which resonates with my work. I was approached by the school to create a mural inspired by the area combining nature with the urban environment and with a nod towards some of the new developments happening down the road in Kings Cross. It really was a wonderful time spent at this lovely school.

“We love our new STEAM stairwell in the KS2 building! It was wonderful for the children to meet artist Jo Peel in real life to watch her add the finishing touches to this inspiring mural. The children could identify the local buildings they sketched in Jo’s virtual workshops last term, set in the backdrop of the regeneration and development of iconic buildings in Kings Cross. It really is the perfect pathway to the STEAM lab! We just need to add the plants into the pipes, bringing more nature into our urban school.”
